Stand-up comedians of the future take to airport stage

Summary

Under 12s travelling through East Midlands Airport on Monday 18 February will be encouraged to take to the ‘Kids Joke Spot’, a mini stage in the airport’s check-in hall between 10am and 1pm and tell jokes as part of the Leicester and Leicestershire Kids Comedy Festival.

The UK Kids’ Comedy Festival is organised by Big Difference Company, the charity behind the annual Leicester Comedy Festival. The Kids’ Festival is new for 2019 and features over 30 events in 20 venues.

Festival founder and Director, Geoff Rowe, said: “We’re delighted with the number of children and young people who are being entertained by the shows and events as part of the very first UK Kids’ Comedy Festival. There’s loads going on as part of the festival and alongside the shows and performances are opportunities for young people to get on stage and have a go at joke telling. We hope the Kids Joke Spot will raise a smile amongst passengers using East Midlands Airport and maybe we’ll spot a few standup comedians of the future.”

Heidi Barlow, East Midlands Airport’s Head of Marketing, said: “In partnership with TUI, we’re really excited to welcome the first ever UK Kids’ Comedy Festival to EMA. Kids have a wonderfully mischievous nature about them and what better way to capture that as they’re just leaving for a holiday from East Midlands Airport?”

The Kids Joke Spot project, and The UK Kids’ Comedy Festival, are supported by East Midlands Airport, Tui, Red Monkey and Leicester City Council. The festival is produced by Big Difference Company in partnership with Curve, Spark for Arts and The Mighty Creatives.
