Regional businesses invited to help shape East Midlands Airport’s growth plans
East Midlands Airport is inviting local businesses to help shape plans to grow its passenger and cargo operations.
A business breakfast event is being held at the airport on Wednesday 21 January to outline proposals to attract new passenger airlines and the airport’s development plans to meet expected cargo growth over the next two decades.
The event follows last year’s appointment of a new commercial director at the airport, Adam Andrews, who aims to build the passenger route network, including developing business routes and linking to a major European hub airport. On the cargo side of the business, he aims to take the growth plans forward and wants to work closely with regional business – with more than 50% of all exports via the airport coming from Midlands firms - to ensure that the strategy reflects their needs.
Businesses from across the region will get an insight into how the airport’s connectivity supports jobs, trade and investment across the East Midlands region. They will be given the opportunity to outline their international business travel and air freight requirements at the event.
East Midlands Airport’s commercial director Adam Andrews said: “As the region’s gateway to Europe and North Africa, we have capacity and the opportunity to grow our network of routes that would benefit business travellers. We are keen to hear from regional businesses to help us make the case to airlines for new routes to key markets and destinations.
“We are also the UK’s number one express air freight hub providing unrivalled global connectivity, with exciting plans to build on our success which has recently seen us attract seven new cargo airlines. We want to ensure that regional firms are aware of and benefitting from the opportunities that our existing and future operations present.”
