Head east from East Midlands Airport for an Oktoberfest break in Berlin

Summary

Now that autumn has clearly signalled its arrival and Christmas is still 100 days away, the German tradition of Oktoberfest is an appealing proposition for a short break.

East Midlands Airport (EMA) offers flights to Berlin where a large number of Oktoberfest celebrations bring the Bavarian way of life to the capital. As well as the famous Oktoberfest beer, this includes culinary specialties such as roast pork knuckles, veal sausage and soft pretzels, as well as traditional live music.

Despite the name, Oktoberfest actually gets underway this weekend, with some festivities continuing through to late October. Other events take place at this time of year, including Berlin’s world-famous Festival of Lights which sees the capital’s sights and monuments become the canvas for spectacular light and video projections.

Ryanair operate frequent two-hour flights from EMA to Berlin Brandenburg Airport, with outward and return flights on Tuesdays and Fridays and fares from as low as £73 return (Friday October 6-Tues October 9, correct at time of writing).

Passengers can expect a warm welcome at EMA where they should clear security in 15 minutes or less and will soon be enjoying the start of their holiday in the shops, restaurants and bars of the departures area.
