Fly to Malaga from East Midlands Airport for sightseeing, seafood and shopping
Malaga is consistently one of the most popular destinations for people choosing East Midlands Airport to fly on their holidays.
Last month alone, almost 32,000 people flew to the Spanish coastal town – 7% of all flights from the airport throughout May. All three of the airport’s main airline partners – Ryanair, Jet2 and TUI – offer frequent flights of around three hours ten minutes throughout the summer period, with Malaga’s southern location resulting in temperatures of up to 28.8C in August.
As one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, it effortlessly blends millennia of history with a thriving modern cultural scene, golden beaches and exceptional Mediterranean gastronomy.
Cultural highlights include The Alcazaba, a stunningly preserved 11th-century Moorish fortress that sits on a hillside overlooking the city and the sea, and Gibralfaro Castle located just above the Alcazaba, which offers magnificent panoramic views of the coastline and mountains.
As birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the town celebrates its legendary artist with more than 200 of his works at the Picasso Museum Málaga, housed in the beautiful Palacio de los Condes de Buenavista.
Visitors can also wander through the historic cobbled streets and enjoy a refreshing drink in one of the Old Town’s many sunny plazas. Mercado de Atarazanas, Málaga’s oldest central market, is perfect for sampling fresh seafood, local cured meats, and traditional Andalusian tapas. Meanwhile Calle Larios, the city's main pedestrianised shopping street, buzzes with stylish boutiques, local eateries and dynamically changing seasonal decorations. If you're visiting in August, don't miss the spectacular Málaga Fair, where flamenco, food, music and celebrations fill the streets day and night.
And a trip to the Costa del Sol wouldn’t be complete without a beach day, with La Malagueta Beach located within easy walking distance from the historic centre, lined with vibrant seaside cafes and restaurants.
