Floodlights at night – community sports clubs’ delight!

Summary

Community sports clubs in Melbourne are benefitting from new LED floodlights thanks to a £10,000 contribution from East Midlands Airport (EMA).

EMA’s Community Fund paid for the floodlights to be installed by a local firm at the village’s Artificial Grass Pitch – especially helpful now that the nights are drawing in. The facility is available for general hire and is used heavily throughout the year by many different organisations and over 750 individuals. This includes the different teams within Melbourne Dynamos Football Club and Melbourne Rugby Club, walking footballers, local six-a-side leagues, football parties, holiday sports clubs, community bookings, training courses and individual coaching sessions.

Malcolm Roseburgh, Chair of Business and Operations Committee, Melbourne Sporting Partnership, said: “The Partnership are delighted with the new lights which have gone down well with users and are already paying dividends for us in relation to carbon savings and finance. We found the grant process very well managed.”

EMA’s Managing Director, Steve Griffiths, said: “It’s important to us that we’re a good neighbour and the Community Fund is one way we can demonstrate that. I’m pleased that contributions like this can bring significant benefits to our surrounding communities.”
