EMA’s Chaplaincy Team mark silver anniversary

Summary

East Midlands Airport’s chaplaincy service marked its 25th anniversary this week with a celebration service held in the check-in hall.

Chaplaincy 25th - 33

The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire Michael Kapur OBE and other dignitaries were joined by colleagues to mark the occasion, with a rousing performance from the DMU Gospel choir and a 25th anniversary cake cut by EMA’s Managing Director Steve Griffiths and the Rev Roy Monks, a founder member of the chaplaincy team.

Rev Monks, along with local ministers Father Anthony Dolan, Rev Rob Hawkins, Pastor Tom Rob-Ronald and Rev David Heslop, established the East Midlands Airport Chaplaincy team in 1999 to provide support at any time, not just in a crisis, to staff and passengers of all faiths or none. Over the years, it has offered prayers, a listening ear, friendly advice and practical help to many.

They take part in special events such as marking religious festivals, as well as supporting charities and good causes in the UK as well as helping to provide international aid. The Prayer Room offers a quiet and calm space anyone can use, not just for prayer, but as a refuge from stress, somewhere to grieve or for quiet contemplation.
