Beat the winter blues with East Midlands Airport

Summary

There’s no better way to beat the January blues than by booking your next holiday.

Landed with a heavy bump after the festive season? Need a pick-me-up? There’s no better way to beat the January blues than by booking your next holiday.

East Midlands Airport is the region’s gateway to the sparkling Alpine snow, the warm Mediterranean waters of southern Europe, the year-round sunshine of the Canaries or an adventure in Florida. Whatever you’re after, having a holiday on the horizon is a great way to keep you cheery through the short days and long nights of January.

Passengers booking holiday flights from East Midlands Airport this year can reach even more destinations. If it’s winter sunshine they’re craving, Ryanair launched a new twice-weekly route to Seville at the end of last year, perfect for a weekend winter warmer, and Thomas Cook returns with Hurghada in Egypt from February, ideal for those who love the sun all year round. Jet2.com and Jet2holidays announced its biggest ever winter flights and holidays programme from East Midlands Airport, with over 300,000 seats on sale to 16 winter sun, city and ski destinations for winter 2018 and 2019 - an increase of 11,000 extra seats.

Building on last year’s summer season, the busiest since 2008, holiday makers looking for guaranteed sunshine between May and October will benefit from a great selection of flights to the most popular summer holiday destinations such as the Canaries, the Balearic Islands, mainland Spain and Portugal, and even Mexico and Florida.

Over 3.2 million passengers flew to and from the airport during May to October 2017 and even more are expected this summer. By the end of the current financial year, annual passenger numbers are forecast to have grown to 4.9m.

Heidi Barlow, East Midlands Airport’s Head of Marketing, said: “More passengers are choosing to fly from East Midlands Airport because we serve some of the most popular holiday and short break destinations. It’s the perfect time of year to book flights as many airlines who fly from here are pushing discounts throughout January, and it will help this month seem less dull and dreary. I’d encourage customers to check out all the offers from our airlines and operators and perhaps even try a new destination from here.”

Award

Next week East Midlands Airport finds out if it has been named Best UK Airport at the 2018 Travel Weekly’s Globe Travel Awards for the first time in six years. Nominees are shortlisted by the number of votes they receive from travel agents across the UK, who also vote for the eventual winner. The award is presented at a ceremony in London on Thursday 11 January.
