Two-thirds of EMA’s passengers fly through the airport between the 1 April and 31 October as airlines increase numbers of flights and destinations. At its busiest, over 20,000 people will fly in and out of EMA each day. Aviation Security Officers (ASOs) are the public face of the organisation and play a key role in ensuring people’s smooth progress through the airport.

EMA’s strong low-cost, short-haul offer ensures that holidaymakers in the region are well catered for in terms of leisure connectivity, with a choice of 80 international and domestic destinations serving mainland Europe, Eastern Europe and North East Africa. Thanks to being one of very few UK airports to operate 24 hours-a-day, EMA is home to the UK’s largest dedicated air cargo operation. To keep the airport running all night and day, ASOs work on shifts around the clock and play a vital role ensuring people and goods get to and from their destinations.

Applicants need not have any previous experience of working in security but do need to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. A full Level 1 aviation security qualification will be provided.

EMA is also recruiting a Driver to work in the customer services team.

Felicia Farrimond, Senior Recruitment and Vetting Co-ordinator (Security), says: “East Midlands Airport is one of the region’s most high-profile businesses. For many people, the holiday starts at the airport and therefore it is essential that frontline staff make passengers feel welcome and at ease when passing through statutory security processes. As one of the UK’s most important cargo hubs, the smooth passage of goods moving through security onto aircraft is critical to the express freight market that the airport serves. With so much growth happening on the airport campus and nearby, this is an exciting time to be working at EMA.”
