Airport trail community litter pick

Summary

East Midlands Airport is appealing to members of the public to join a litter pick along the airport trail on Sunday 20 September.

The event is part of the ‘Great British September Clean’ – a national week of litter-picking activities promoted by national charity Keep Britain Clean.

The airport trail is a 10km public path which follows the perimeter fence around the airfield. It is very popular with walkers and aviation enthusiasts as it offers good views of the runway. While overgrown in some places, it is possible to walk the entire circular route.

Litter has accumulated in certain areas along the trail and airport staff, together with members of the public and local community groups, will gather on Sunday to help clear it up which will make the trail a far more enjoyable experience.

Colleen Hempson, the airport’s Corporate and Social Responsibility Manager, says: “Our 10km airport trail is a wonderful resource for people who enjoy a good walk, as well as those who love to ‘plane spot’ at our picnic area. Sadly, a small minority of users have left behind litter. We are calling on all friends of East Midlands Airport, both our colleagues and those living in our local communities, to come and support us as we tidy the area on Sunday 20 June.”

Anyone interested in taking part should email community@eastmidlandsairport.com. The litter pick will begin at 10am and all equipment and protective clothing will be provided.
