Aer Lingus Regional starts new service between Belfast and East Midlands
East Midlands Airport (EMA) welcomes a brand-new passenger airline on Thursday 1 October.
Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Stobart Air, will fly up to three times daily to and from Belfast using a ATR72-600 aircraft.
The new service re-establishes the link between EMA and Belfast following the collapse of Flybe last year.
The convenient flight times allow for easy access to Belfast and Northern Ireland whether visiting for the day or for longer and it’s ideal for both leisure and business travellers.
With a flight time of just over an hour, Belfast and Northern Ireland is a great place to explore. In the city itself, Titanic Belfast, the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience, is a must-see and is just one of the many cultural escapes, scientific exhibitions and literary inspired attractions in the city. A short journey away from Belfast, the rugged Causeway Coastal Route - voted the Number 1 Region in the World to visit by Lonely Planet in 2018 - is a popular attraction for lovers of the outdoors and keen walkers.
For Game of Thrones fans, there is no better place to visit. The popular TV series was filmed in Belfast and across Northern Ireland. The area’s rugged coast lines, historic castles and breath-taking scenery provided the perfect backdrop. The Game of Thrones tour takes in famous filming locations.
Clare James, East Midlands Airport’s Managing Director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome a brand new airline to East Midlands Airport. This is a positive development and is especially welcome in these challenging times for aviation. Direct connectivity to Belfast is a boost for this region and the new route provides frequent and easy access to Northern Ireland for people who are visiting for leisure or business. It’s also great news for tourism in the East Midlands and we offer a very warm welcome to visitors who want to explore everything this region has to offer.”
Commenting on the announcement, Stobart Air Managing Director Andy Jolly said:
“We are pleased to establish a base at Belfast City Airport and to work closely with East Midlands Airport, Belfast City Airport and our partners Aer Lingus to operate flights to and from East Midlands.
“Stobart Air has worked hard over the past number of months to protect our airline during challenging times and to position us for the future. The launch of this service is part of that.
“This new Aer Lingus Regional route will facilitate key links and connectivity between Belfast and the East Midlands and ensure we provide choice, value and convenience for our customers. We look forward to welcoming our passengers on board this route from today.”
